Community Guidelines

Last updated: 29 June 2026

Afayer exists to help Muslims find a spouse in a way that is halal, respectful, and honouring to Allah. These Community Guidelines set out the standards of behaviour we expect from every member. They apply to everything you do on Afayer — your profile, your messages, your use of chaperone mode, and any interaction with other members. Violating these guidelines can result in your account being suspended or permanently removed.

1. Our Mission

We are building a safe halal space where Muslims can find a life partner with sincerity, respect, and Islamic values. Afayer is not a casual dating app — it is a serious marriage platform. Every feature we build, from chaperone mode to photo privacy, reflects that purpose. We ask every member to uphold this mission in the way they engage with others.

2. Who Belongs Here

Afayer is open to:

  • Muslims of all sects, backgrounds, and ethnicities aged 18+.
  • People with a sincere intention to seek marriage (nikah) — not casual connections, friendships, or pen pals.
  • Members who are respectful of differences within the Muslim community, including differences of sect, culture, and practice.

If you are not a Muslim, are below 18, or are not genuinely seeking marriage, Afayer is not for you.

3. Authentic Profiles

Honesty is the foundation of any successful marriage. Your profile must accurately represent who you are:

  • Use your real name (or a recognised variation of it) — no nicknames, handles, or aliases.
  • Upload recent, accurate photos of yourself. Your main profile photo must clearly show your face. No stock images, cartoons, landscapes, or group shots as your main photo.
  • Provide truthful information about your age, marital status, education, occupation, and religious background.
  • If you are in a polygamous situation permitted by law, you must disclose your marital status clearly and honestly.
  • Do not create profiles on behalf of someone else without their explicit knowledge and consent.

Consider getting verified — our optional photo and ID verification badges signal to potential matches that you are a real, trustworthy person.

4. Respectful Communication

The way you communicate on Afayer reflects your character. We expect every member to:

  • Open conversations with salaam and with adab (Islamic etiquette). First impressions matter.
  • Keep conversations appropriate and marriage-focused. Avoid flirtatious, suggestive, or inappropriate language.
  • Respect a person's right not to respond. If someone does not reply, or asks you not to contact them, honour that.
  • Remember that in chaperone mode, a wali or family member may be reading your messages. Write as if they are.
  • Never send unsolicited photos, audio, or video that are sexual, suggestive, or otherwise inappropriate.

5. Chaperone Mode

Chaperone (wali) mode is one of Afayer's most important features, designed to facilitate Islamic courtship with appropriate oversight:

  • Inviting a wali is encouraged — a parent, sibling, or trusted family member can oversee your conversation thread.
  • Chaperones must also abide by these Community Guidelines. Their participation must be respectful and supportive — not intrusive or controlling beyond their role.
  • Do not attempt to bypass, work around, or disable chaperone oversight in a way that defeats its purpose.
  • Conversations in chaperone mode are visible to the invited guardian. Do not use side channels (external apps, numbers) to have conversations that exclude the wali.

6. Photo Standards

Whether your photos are public or private, all content must meet these standards:

  • No explicit or sexually suggestive content of any kind — this includes revealing clothing, poses, or images intended to be provocative.
  • Verification photos must be unobstructed, well-lit, and genuine — no heavy filters, face-swap effects, or images that misrepresent your appearance.
  • Do not upload photos of other people without their consent.
  • No screenshots of other members' private photos may be taken or shared. Afayer enforces screenshot alerts to protect member privacy.

7. Prohibited Behaviour

The following behaviours are strictly forbidden and will result in immediate action against your account:

  • Harassment and threats: intimidating, threatening, or abusing any member, including repeatedly messaging someone who has not responded or asked you to stop.
  • Hate speech: content that demeans, discriminates against, or incites hatred based on religion (including sect), race, ethnicity, gender, disability, or any other characteristic.
  • Scams and financial solicitation: asking for money, gifts, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or any financial assistance from other members.
  • Impersonation: pretending to be another person, celebrity, scholar, or Afayer staff member.
  • Advertising and spam: promoting businesses, services, social media accounts, or external platforms within the app.
  • Data collection: gathering personal information from members without their consent, including for the purpose of contacting them outside Afayer.
  • Sharing private information: revealing or distributing another member's personal details, private photos, or messages without their consent.
  • Circumventing safety features: attempting to bypass photo protection, screenshot alerts, account bans, or any other safety mechanism.

8. Safety First

Your safety is our priority. Please follow these practices:

  • Protect your personal details: do not share your personal phone number, home address, workplace, or financial information with someone you have just met on Afayer.
  • First meetings: if you decide to meet someone in person, do so in a public place and bring a mahram or trusted friend.
  • Trust your instincts: if something feels wrong or a conversation makes you uncomfortable, block and report immediately.
  • Never send money to someone you have met onAfayer, regardless of the reason or urgency they describe.

9. Reporting & Blocking

If you encounter behaviour that violates these guidelines:

  • Use the in-app report button on any profile or message to flag it to our moderation team. Reports can be made anonymously.
  • Block any member at any time directly from their profile. Blocked members cannot view your profile, send messages, or contact you in any way.
  • Our safety team reviews all reports and takes action based on the severity of the violation. We do not share the details of actions taken against other accounts.
  • For urgent safety concerns, email us at afayer.com@gmail.com.

10. Enforcement & Consequences

Afayer takes violations seriously. Depending on the nature and severity of the issue, we may take the following actions:

  • Warning: a formal notice that specific content or behaviour violates these guidelines.
  • Content removal: we may remove photos, messages, or profile information that breaches these guidelines.
  • Temporary suspension: your account may be temporarily restricted pending review.
  • Permanent ban: serious or repeated violations — including scams, explicit content, hate speech, or threats — will result in a permanent account ban with no right to re-register.

To appeal an enforcement decision, contact us at afayer.com@gmail.com with your account details and the reason for your appeal. We will review appeals within 14 business days.

11. Keeping the Community Safe

Safety on Afayer is a shared responsibility. We rely on our community to help us identify bad actors and content that does not belong here. If you see something, say something — your report could protect another member from harm. Afayer's moderation team is active and committed to responding to reports promptly.

We are continuously improving our safety features and community standards. These guidelines will be updated as our platform grows and as we learn from our community.
